Your cricket club has arranged for the major sporting event this year to be staged on your doorstep. (FIFA World cup does not count as major)

The Third Annual ODCC 6-A-Side Cup will take place on Sunday 25th May at the Oxford Downs Cricket Club ground on the Abingdon Road.  Anyone who took part last year for the second annual event following the Jubilee-6-a-side will remember the tremendous fun had by all. As i said last year, let’s do it again! Again!!

Taking part in the opportunity to win one of the world’s most prestigious trophies is easy. Simply talk to your friends/mates/drinking partners/family, round up six players (must be over 15yrs old(ish) – health and safety), nominate a Captain, then complete the attached form and return to Richard Dunk on: rdunk@spc-limited.com by Monday 19 MayTeams will be confirmed on a first come first serve basis.

The day will not be limited to the entertainment of watching mad and infirm blokes chasing after leather with willow, there will be the usual Black Sheep BBQ, and a Hog Roast at 6pm, a bar full of beer, wine and pop, together with additional activities and entertainments –  it’s an occasion for the whole family!

The competition is open to all abilities, so don’t think just of Kevin Pietersen or Justin Cantrill however, be warned many of the greats will be snapped up if you delay!

The number of teams is limited to EIGHT so you must round up your SIX players, complete and return your entry form ASAP to ensure your side’s inclusion.  Once all playing slots are filled, further details will be sent to the team captains.

We will however require some volunteers for providing the following services:

Bacon Sarnies, Tea and Coffee: From about 10:00am-11:00am (2 persons required)

BBQ: From 12:00 noon-2:00pm (3-4 persons required)

Teas: From 3:00pm-5:00pm (3-4 persons required)

Hog Roast: From 5:00pm-8:00pm (4 or more persons)

Making Cakes for teatime: anyone who would like to donate.

It should be noted that any of the jobs above will be very simple and would be for only about an hour a shift. You r help is very much appreciated.

The competition will comprise of (for the actuaries amongst you):

  • 8 teams each of 6 players
  • 6 overs each innings (12 overs in a match)
  • 5 bowlers in each team (Wicket Keeper does not bowl)
  • All six to bat (face 1 over each)
  • Time depending – A second competition (Wooden Spoon) will commence with teams knocked out in round one)

GOOD LUCK WITH THE APPLICATIONS!
